Hi everyone,

I’m Attorney Nicole Mayer.  I’ve been working on your case with Jillian Estes since the beginning. This weekend, I was a panelist at an important education conference in Chicago hosted by the Rainbow Push Coalition. I had the opportunity to discuss your concerns about student loans and for-profit schools with some wonderful people.  Among them were the Deputy Undersecretary of the Department of Education Robert Shireman and President of Bennettt College Dr. Julianne Malveaux. (see picture)
It was inspiring to see so many people stand up and advocate for students. After listening to everyone speak and talking with other panelists, I really believe that big changes are coming. Part of this can be seen by the rules released by the Department of Education today which are designed to protect students from aggressive and misleading recruiting practices.
There is still a very important rule up for discussion, the one that requires schools to show that their graduates achieve “gainful employment.” The for-profit schools are lobbying hard against this, so everyone who wants to see a change will need to be active.  So, keep telling your stories. We will make a difference.  I will keep you posted on what you can do to help make sure that rule is passed in a way that protects students.
Sincerely,
Nicole

Gainful Employment Fraud was used against me before I enrolled into Westwood’s Online Program. I was promised everything……….

I now have a false degree, huge debt, and nothing to show for it. Sallie Mae is going to garnish my wages in a few months for this misleading degree and I do not know what to do my situation. I am helpless and very restless…….

It’s not just Westwood College, it’s most of the technical institutes, modeling schools and etc.
Believe me I have worked for lot of them for over the pass few years as a admissions representive- inside and out in the high school programs.
As soon as your enrollments are down, they fire you…..Most schools have revolving doors for employment….Most schools may the statement to their admissions people ” YOU ARE CHANGING LIFES “….FA meets weekly to tell DOA and admissions dept. employees the status of each student loans and etc….Bonus are paid to both depts…….Good Luck someone need to turn the tables on these schools…..

I went to Westwood several years ago, and did not complete my degree. I was told that they had a 95% job placement and that school would be inexpensive. When I got to Denver North Campus, they told me that I had to pay over $500 a month for Sallie Mae loans because my parents made too much money to qualify for a Parent Plus loan. THEN they said, OH but wait, we can give you a loan ourselves. Here I am stranded in Colorado with nothing but a few dollars to my name because they made me pay two months in advance to live in collegiate housing (also a scam), so i have no choice but to stay and say sure i will pay your 18 percent interest rate. I didn’t qualify for the loans at any of the banks there because I had no income. I stayed there for 3 years, I couldn’t afford to live in CO anymore by the end and had to go home emptyhanded but for a $76000 debt to Sallie Mae and $3K to Westwood themselves. How can I get some satisfaction out of this suit? My credits don’t even transfer to the Navy. The NAVY will not accept credits from Westwood at all.
